Bathroom Renovation

Upper West Side, Manhattan

To help an apartment owner age in place, LFA worked with building management and contractors to complete this gut rehab of a bathroom in a 1920s apartment house in Manhattan.

The scope of work included changing the tub to a shower with new glass enclosure, vanity and WC, as well as new tile and lighting. Grab bars double as towel bars in some places, and a fold-down shower seat saves space in this bright west-facing bathroom.

The entry was widened to fit a 34 inch door; it was hoped that a 36 inch sliding door could be used, but a probe found that pipes interfered. Six contractors were asked to bid; it was a challenge to find one who could provide a detailed bid and the ability to work in a high-end Cooperative building.
